Weight breaks

The weight breaks in Cargo Office are based on the international standard interval and the eRate Sheet specifications.

Weight breaks

Cargo Office has limited the use of user defined weight breaks. Instead, the most commonly used weight breaks are available. The weight breaks are in accordance with the eRate Sheet definition. Allowing random weight breaks would compromise the clear presentation of rates for both publisher and reader.

Weightbreak and surcharges

The following weight breaks are supported:
  • Min; the minimum price the shipment is accepted for by a carrier.
  • Flat; the price per kilogram above 1 kg.
  • 45; price per kg higher or equal to 45 kg.
  • 100-1000; same as previous weight break with values according to the column name.

If the weight break contains no value or zero, the rate will be a minus sign. In all other cases, the value represents the price per kg. Exceptions are allowed in two cases:

  • o/r; on request rate. The forwarder should contact the carrier for pricing information for the on request weight breaks.
  • IATA; the carrier refers to IATA published TACT rates for pricing information.

Minimum weight break

For shipment pricing, the minimum weight break is important to calculate the total price. Should the total price (calculated by multiplying the shipment weight with the appropriate weight break) be less than the minimum price, then the minimum price overrules the calculated price.
Under certain circumstances, the minimum price weight break represents the starting rate for a shipment. To distinguish the difference between the two rates, the starting rate is marked with an asterisk (*).
